Article in Capital Gazette: Local photographer quietly spotlights Annapolis
Article By Meredith Newman
May 15, 2016
Excerpt:
For every major event in Annapolis in 2014, Lisa Masson and her camera were probably there.
Masson shot tens of thousands of photos of Annapolis — a place she’s called home for 16 years. The photos were for the coffee table book “Annapolis – A Photographic Portrait,” which was published this month.
Twin Lights Publishers, which has published a series of “Photographic Portrait” in other cities, chose Masson to be the book’s photographer. And while the local photographer shot Annapolis staples, such as the Naval Academy and City Dock, she also looked for Annapolis’ smaller, more defining characteristics.
The Capital spoke with Masson about photography, her book and love of the city.

Amusing Bay Bridge trivia:
- Did you know that the original span opened in 1952 and with a length of 4.3 miles. It was the world’s longest continuous over-water steel structure; the parallel span was added in 1973.
- Studies exploring the possibility of building a bridge across the Chesapeake Bay were conducted as early as the 1880s.
- The view is always spectacular because each span has a maximum clearance of 186 feet to accommodate ocean-going vessels and tall ships.
- The curve near the western terminus was required so that the main spans cross the Bay’s shipping channels at 90 degrees per US Army Corps of Engineers requirements.
Lisa finds it “calming being surrounded by the waters of the Chesapeake Bay” and you will too, with her latest piece of art hanging on your wall! We look forward to seeing you.

The 34th America’s Cup was a series of boat races held on San Francisco Bay between the defender Oracle Team USA representing the Golden Gate Yacht Club, and the challenger Emirates Team New Zealand representing the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. Oracle Team USA defended the America’s Cup by a score of 9 to 8. Oracle had to win the last eight races to come from behind and once again win the oldest trophy in international sport.
